PG Botany department of Bishop Abraham Memorial College, Thuruthicad has celebrated the 125th birth anniversary of Padmasri Dr. E.K. Janaki Ammal, India’s first women botanist, who has never been celebrated during her lifetime. In connection with this conducted an exhibition ‘janakia’ portraying the extra ordinary life history of Janaki Ammal.
The childhood, education, career, academic challenges and achievements of Janaki Ammal were displayed in the exhibition wall as paintings, writings, caricatures, photos, etc. Dr. Anoop P. Balan, faculty of the department delivered the commemorative lecture. In his lecture he narrated the unbelievable life journey of Janaki Ammal who was borne in an ordinary backward community in Northern Kerala. Dr. Reshma Ranjanan, faculty of the department coordinated the program in a nice way. The success of the program was the result of the joint efforts of teachers and students of the department who has worked day and night.
B. A. M. college is named after Bishop Abraham Mar Thoma Metropolitan. For him, life was to wear out than to rust out. The institution upholds these ideas and conveys to the student community that devotion to truth and disciplined behaviour are the prime requirements for a successful life.
